About & editorial policy

Portfolio53 began as a practical project: collect the web's useful sites, sort them into subject sections, and present them in a form that is easy to read and navigate. The name evokes a numbered proof sheet from a print shop — each entry is a deliberate choice, set in type and ready for consultation. The directory currently holds 851 approved listings across 22 sections. Sections range from broad categories like Odds & Ends and Computing & Software to focused runs such as Dental Practices and Papers & Credentials. Every entry has been checked for a working URL before being composited into the directory. Submission is open to anyone running a legitimate website. The process is straightforward: visit the add page, enter your URL and a brief description, choose the most appropriate section, and submit. Entries are reviewed before going live, so the press run stays clean. Portfolio53 does not charge for basic listings. The directory exists to be useful — to the people who browse it looking for a service, and to the site owners who want their work to be findable. There are no editorial rankings or paid placements; entries appear in the order they were added to each section. The directory is maintained on a rolling basis. If you find a listing with a broken link, or if a site you rely on is absent from the folio, use the submission form or the contact page to let us know. A good print shop fixes its typos.
